Without dance, people could only hum along to “Macarena,” and Jane Austen characters would be forced to say what was really on their minds. Let movements speak with today’s Groupon: for $39, you get a dance-lesson package at Shall We Dance? in Louisville and New Albany (a $210 total value). The package includes:

  • Two private dance lessons for up to four people (a $150 value)
  • Four group or party dance lessons for one person (a $60 value)<p>

Admissions to group lessons or parties may be split among friends.

Having passed on their rug-cutting inclinations to basketball coach Denny Crum and other local celebrities, the sure-footed staff at Shall We Dance? continues to unleash an arsenal of graceful moves in two refined studios. Students of all skill levels step in time with the school’s curriculum of smooth and rhythm techniques during private lessons, using their feet like metal detectors to scan the floor for long-lost grooves. As they jump and jive across the spacious classrooms, students tap out rumba’s percussive steps and fall into syncopation with styles such as the swing and cha-cha. Stately triple beats whirl waltzers across the floor, steamy struts abound in tango lessons, and fox-trot instructors bring students to their knees in classical hunting poses.

Dancers team up with partners in group classes designed to increase leading and following skills. Music and merriment fill the studio as novice and advanced coryphées alike show off their best steps during practice parties with such whimsical themes as 1970s, a Halloween costume ball, and a wobbly steamboat affair. Itchy and impatient feet can refer to the studio’s calendar for an up-to-date listing of class times.
