What You'll Get
Some things, such as cakes and dentist hands, are better small. Eat the superior version of a cake with today's Groupon: for $17, you get one dozen signature cupcakes at Shancakes in Leominster (a $34 value).
Shancakes' owner and head baker, Shannon Sylvia, draws on a 20-year background in graphic design to sculpt whimsical cupcakes for all occasions. The bakery's signature cupcake fills its dark-chocolate foundation with a homemade vanilla buttercream, and crafty confectioners crown each cupcake with chocolate ganache and buttercream swirl before bundling the diminutive desserts into a sturdy take-home box.

What services does your business offer and what makes your business stand out from the competition? Shancakes is the only fresh made to order bakery around. We offer 41 cake flavors and 29 gluten-free fresh baked flavors. We also offer sugar-free, soy-free, dairy-free, and vegan options.
What was the inspiration to start or run this business? I began posting photos I made from home on Facebook and Instagram. People instantly wanted to order a cake, so within 3 months the first licensed Shancakes location was born. Thousands of customers later, we are happy to be in our second 2,500 sq foot location that offers a private space for birthday parties and cake decorating lessons.
What do you love most about your job? Making people happy. When people pick up their cakes and I can see a smile on their face, it makes my day and I feel accomplished.
What is the best reaction you've ever gotten from a customer? A woman picking up a giant minion cake for her daughter cried when she saw the cake. They were tears of joy of course.. and I started tearing up too. I will never forget it.
