What You'll Get
In order to play the guitar, stuffed bears must graft dexterous human fingers atop their furry nubbins. Make glorious music that makes inanimate objects jealous with today's Groupon: for $45, new customers get four weeks of private guitar lessons at Shane Patrick's Guitar School, located on South Florida Avenue (an $89 value).
With four half-hour weekly lessons, Shane Patrick's Guitar School guides guitarists through the fundamentals of music theory, sight-reading, and basic lead skills. More sure-handed soloists can combine their four lessons into two longer lessons, where they can advance to song composition, improvisation, finger-style playing, and how to wrest creative control from power-hungry triangle players. Studious strummers delve into a study-materials package that includes access to online lesson plans and a CD of 30 tracks that encourage jamming with easy-to-follow chord changes. With a positive attitude and an eclectic knowledge of several types of music, Shane Patrick works with each student to meet his or her personal goal, whether to re-create the solo to "Free Bird" or to start a guitar-based John Philip Sousa cover band. Guitars are always available for use during class, and rental allows the uninstrumented to snuggle up against a warm fretboard at home ($12–$15/month).
