Garnishing the area with produce for more than 100 years, Sharp's at Waterford Farm invites all-ages adventurers to explore its 530 acres of working farmland and over 7 acre corn maze each weekend. Farm staff shapes the labyrinth into a yearly rotating family-friendly theme, including this year's Friends & Foes Of The Farmer motif. Visitors navigate maize-lined passages carved into joining aerial portraits of a friendly bat and contentious stink bug, answering themed true-or-false queries at each fork in the path that educate participants on interesting animal facts and agricultural concepts such as how to train corn to pop itself. Correct answers lead down continuing paths, while incorrect answers reroute searchers to dead ends and judgmental scarecrows.

Farm workers also parade visitors on hayrides through the farm's 20 acres of pumpkin fields, prompting adults, children, and adult-size children to pluck a pumpkin of their choice from the vine. Younger visitors can also pick through the passages of a miniature corn labyrinth, or hand-feed gentle farm animals. Autumnal adventurers can also show off knowledge of hay bale anatomy as they construct scarecrows, or visit observation bee hives and explore the farm's museum (not included in this deal).

Origin Stories: You Say Tomato, I Say Apple

Alan Sharp has helped tend the family farm since his early childhood, and took over half the homestead's major operations upon graduating from college in 2009. A commercial aerial survey pilot, Alan always makes time for recreational fly-overs of his home and Chesapeake Bay's picturesque Tangier Island. Alan has witnessed many outdoor wonders, including two bald eagles that soared wing-in-wing over his crops, as well as a recent student visitor from Baltimore who proudly identified a tomato plant (the first he'd ever seen) as an "apple bush" to his friends.
