As mentioned in previous reviews, it wasn’t very hands on as this was a beginner class. Advanced classes are available. However, learning about the science and history of glass was interesting. You’re able to make a whiskey glass, beer glass or vase and choose up to three colors for your glass. Also, Lance provided us with a third glass, which was used to show us what we would be doing.

Wasn’t as hands on as I would have wanted. Owner was very upfront about it right away and totally understood why it isn’t more hands on but I’d be ok with a weirdly shaped glass knowing that I was the one that did it. Very knowledgeable. Very cool information learned. Awesome glass pieces.

Lance was a great instructor. He is very talented as an artist and I appreciated how he incorporated so much science and history of glass into the lesson. My husband and I did this as a date night and it was worth every penny.

Staff Size: 2–10 people

Average Duration of Services: 1–2 hours

As a glass artist, Lance Friedman's résumé speaks for itself. He has works permanently installed in the Corning Museum of Glass and the Tacoma Museum of Glass. In the late 1980s, he helped the city of Chicago establish its official zoning and safety codes for glass-blowing studios in the city. Today, he teaches one-on-one lessons in glass blowing and solid sculpture at Shatter Glass Group, his Old Irving Park studio.

He brings decades of experience to each lesson, along with plenty of personalization toward each student's skill level and personal artistic aspirations. "We only do private lessons, so the learning curve is much less steep and you get more attention from your instructor," he said. He reports the results with pride—many of his students have been with him for more than a decade and have become established artists in their own right, creating stunning original artwork.
