Herr Battler, Signor Bombardone and General Flanco stand in for Hitler, Mussolini and Franco in George Bernard Shaw’s 1938 political comedy, the latest in ShawChicago Theater Company’s series of concert readings of his works. Set at the League of Nations in Geneva, the three dictators have been called before the organization to attempt to explain their actions. Shaw was a famed wit and prolific playwright (Pygmalion, Saint Joan), who trained a sharp satirical eye on current events, and whose keen observations continue to resonate to this day. Stick around for talkbacks following select Sunday performances.
