The owner of SHE3 Barre Fitness & Wellness Boutique, Benay Rubin, originally trained in the Lotte Berk Method—the original barre fitness regimen—and she's perfected her technique over the last 20 years. However, she also earned certifications in yoga and Pilates, and has combined the three fitness styles into her own signature barre workout, which is designed to help primarily women tone their bodies.
She and her team teach the body-sculpting sequence to patrons of all ages and abilities, focusing on "finding 'quiver' ... when the muscle is strengthening and lengthening," according to Rubin. Their regimens also incorporate TRX resistance training and jump roping, as well as wellness activities, such as detox programs, to help patrons lead overall healthier lifestyles. They teach traditional Chinese qi gong, for example, which soothes physiques with a blend of meditation, self-massage, and relaxed breathing to help clients reach states of bliss and peacefulness normally only achieved while lying in a meadow as woodland creatures brush your hair.
