Great aquarium! A bit smaller than I remembered but fun nonetheless! Did the behind the scenes tour which is so cool and informative!

This was an amazing experience that I highly recommend. We were treated like royalty for having this package (able to skip past long entrance line) and seeing behind the scenes was loved by all of my family - even my picky teenagers!

The Shedd Aquarium is a great place but I was slightly disappointed in the behind he scenes tour. I didn't feel like we really got to see that much and at times the group leader did not use the microphone and head set so it was difficult to hear. The Groupon also came with a free show so with the free show, the behind the scenes tour and the general visit it was well worth the price. I would absolutely to back to the Shedd again, but not the behind the scenes tour.

We were visiting Chicago and planned on a trip to the Shedd. The Behind the Scenes Penguin Encounter offer was great. It includes admission to the aquarium and was a great savings off the regular price. We scheduled our encounter online very easily. When we got to the aquarium the staff was very helpful and friendly. We first got a Quick tour of parts of the aquarium as we made our way to the encounter room. Soon a trainer came to speak to us and then the penguin came to meet us. We were in a small Room with another family. Everyone got to pet the penguin and a pro photographer took pictures of each person w the penguin. It was a very controlled environment. All in all it was very exciting and rewarding to take part in this encounter. We would Do this again on a future trip.

About Shedd Aquarium

Chicago might be far from any ocean, but that obstacle didn't stop it from pioneering the first permanent inland saltwater aquarium in the country. Civic leader John G. Shedd’s drive and contribution of $3 million paid for nearly a million gallons of seawater transported by rail from Florida’s coast, by 1930 the city hosted exhibits large enough to accommodate a wide variety of marine species–sea mammals as well as fish.

Today, Shedd’s dream continues to thrive with the aquarium’s scores of undersea creatures—from sharks and dolphins to vibrant sea cucumbers—showcased in educational, eye-catching exhibits. The permanent collection spirits visitors from the Great Lakes to the Amazon River to the waters of the Pacific Northwest. The resident animals often share their turf with seasonal exhibits like stingrays, who fill dramatic special exhibits.

The most exciting animal encounters, however, may come via the year-round Aquatic Presentation. Trainers may demonstrate the natural behaviors of sea lions, dolphins, and even beluga whales.
