The Shelton McMurphey Johnson House, a Queen Anne–style Victorian beauty, offers curious community members a host of opportunities to learn about local history, engage in lectures and teas, and enjoy the beauty of a well-restored Victorian mansion. Both membership options include free admission to the mansion’s expansive exhibits and lectures, as well as 10% off at the gift store. The house’s current exhibit, called Cream In Your Coffee … Honey In Your Tea, displays an ornate collection of vintage coffee tins, cups and saucers, and silver tea wares that whoop and jitterbug at the mention of caffeine. Herald spring at the Victorian House on the Hill flower display on April 29 and 30, with artful arrangements designed to flatter the architectural details of the house. The floral fete kicks off a garden show sure to delight horticulturalists, bees, and patient Japanese beetles.
A variety of lectures, such as the ongoing Building Modern Eugene series, discuss local topics of modern-day and historical import.
