Sherwood Celtic Music Festival

  • Blaggards (September 20–21): these rockers pull inspiration from acts as diverse as Elvis and Black Sabbath, then stir in Celtic influences for a sound they call “Stout Irish Rock.”
  • Saileog and Sionnach (September 20–21): Saileog may be only 14, but she’s already a veteran of the Celtic music scene. The young fiddler is a session player, and performs and teaches regularly with her dad, Sionnach.
  • Sharon Knight (September 20–21): “Neofolk Romantinque”—that’s the musical style this San Francisco-based singer has created with her lilting voice and fanciful lyrics about belly dancers, pirates, and fairytales
  • Ashley Davis (September 27–28): the Chieftains’ Paddy Maloney can attest to this singer’s talents—the two have collaborated on her distinct blend of Irish, Scottish, and Appalachian country music
  • San Antonio Pipes & Drums (September 27–28): donned in traditional Scottish garb, these musicians have played their bagpipes and Scottish drums for the likes of the President of Mexico and the Queen of England
  • The Dead Rabbits (September 27–28): this Celtic punk band fuses traditional Irish rebellion songs with a punk attitude born and bred in Texas
  • Non-musical things to do: watch the Highland Games; head to the food and drink area for kettle corn, turkey legs, and beer; peruse the marketplace for jewelry, leatherwork, and pottery

The place is hiden but worth the trip. Take cash with you.

Nice renaissance faire. Fairly new compared to others I've been to, but that works in their favor. It is friendly and less pretentious and they're definitely on the right track to becoming an institution
