About Shipwreck Tavern
As the story goes, before he disappeared in the Bermuda Triangle, Captain Barrett Bay built Shipwreck Tavern in 1965 so he had a place to show off the beautiful relics he salvaged during his shipwreck explorations. So as diners nosh on plates of fish and chips, lobster-roll sliders, or fresh oysters, they can admire his collection. A brass mermaid arches over the dark wood bar, behind which a school of fish in a brilliant blue tank ripple back and forth. Tikis adorn the wall, alternately grimacing and smiling at guests before asking for fried clam strips. The outdoor patio offers views of Long Island Sound, where fans of the lost Captain Bay shape french fries into the shape of mermaids to try to lure him back.
