Shockoe Whiskey & Wine
Who would have thought that an upscale restaurant specializing in whiskey and wine could be born out of a love of poetry? When Chris Randolph moved back to Richmond, he was looking for a way to bring more spoken-word events and live music to the city. His girlfriend, Jessica Proffitt, suggested opening their own venue. Since nothing rounds out an evening of culture quite like a good meal and a stiff drink, Shockoe Whiskey and Wine was born.
On any given night, don't be surprised if you walk into a poetry reading or a live concert. Just settle in for the show and order a drink from the bar, where Jessica's love of wine and Chris's love of whiskey means the drink list is more than long—it's comprehensive. Once you've had your fill of culture, fill up your belly with what Shockoe's chefs call "sophisticated Southern" cuisine. During lunch and dinner, you'll find a menu chock-full of inventive plates such as the Cap'n Crunch fried shrimp alongside classic upscale fare like fresh-caught salmon and hearty rib-eye steaks.
