Like a tongue on a flagpole in February, fusion cuisine results from curiosity and a shortage of popsicles. Rein in restless taste buds with today’s Groupon to Shoku. Choose between the following options:

  • For $15, you get $30 worth of Japanese fusion fare Sunday–Thursday.
  • For $20, you get $40 worth of Japanese fusion fare on a Friday or Saturday.

The epicurean alchemists at Shoku flood their harmonious quartet of menus—lunch, dinner, and sushi–with fresh seafood and lean meats to craft fusion fare inspired by cuisines from Japan, Korea, Singapore, and Thailand. Diners can slurp curly noodles from udon-broth lagoons that surround savory islands of beef, chicken, shrimp, or vegetables ($12–$14), or they can skewer the eastern beef satay like a political satirist that voted for poultry in ‘84 ($6.95). Entrees strengthen international relations with flavorful treaties of korean bulgogi ($12–$17) or japanese firepot chicken, which laps up sweet wine sauce from the delicate confines of a crisp tempura shell ($12–$15). Nori-wrapped rolls and sticky rice populate a sushi list brimming with specialties such as the soy-paper-ensconced thai roll stuffed with cilantro-laced shrimp and chopped peanuts ($9.95 for five pieces).

At Shoku, morsels of succulent beef, marinated chicken, and ocean-fresh seafood fill out feasts of Japanese noodles and sushi or dishes inspired by national favorites of Asian nations including Korea, China, and Thailand. Broth-soaked udon noodles jostle for attention with plates of pad thai, pan-fried pot stickers, and bowls of sizzling beef bulgogi. Guests take a seat inside to watch a master chef deftly carve seafood at the sushi table, or they can lounge under umbrellas at the outdoor seating to watch the passing foot traffic and hourly soapbox derbies along Grandview Avenue.

The waiter took my phone with him to enter the groupon, which was very uncomfortable for me. The food was great, however, and the service was good.
