A Chat with Shorinkan Karate-do
What services does your business offer and what makes your business stand out from the competition?
I am a traditional martial artist with a passion to inspire the children and adults of my community. I am a Vista native and give back to the community by volunteering at the Boys & Girls Club of Vista as the karate instructor. I am fluent in Japanese and offer a conversational class.
What’s one tip for first-time students that will make them feel like veterans?
Come to the Dojo and feel welcomed by our students and my self. We are one big karate-ka (family).
What was the inspiration to start or run this business?
I was told as a child that I was not allowed to do karate at the boys and girls club as it was “only for boys,” or so I was told by my mother. I believe in karate there is no gender, only karate students.
What do you love most about your job?
I love the fact that it has given me to opportunity to learn a foreign language and travel to other countries, while enjoying the company of many great leaders in the community.
