####Where The Torpedo Factory Art Center hosts 82 artists' studios, as well as galleries, workshops, and an archaeology museum. But originally, the waterfront building had a much different mission. Built by the U.S. Navy as a torpedo factory, it housed a flurry of munitions-making activity throughout World War II. At the end of the war, the workers left for good and the building served as a storage facility until 1974, when the City of Alexandria renovated and reopened it as the art collective it remains to this day.
####Who Filled with bubbles, glowing light, and intricate sea creatures, Alison Sigethy's _Sea Core Bubble Tubes_ look like living aquariums—but the artist actually crafted everything from glass. They're the kind of nature-inspired pieces that typify [Alison's work](http://www.alisonsigethy.com/), which incorporates salvaged materials. Since becoming a full-time glass artist in 2003, she's been honored as a Smithsonian Presents speaker and a featured artist in The Phillips Collection’s museum shop. Passionate about introducing people to new experiences, Alison's taken more than 200 people and a few exceptionally curious toasters on tours of the Torpedo Factory Art Center, where she's been a resident artist since 2007.
