What You'll Get
Mankind's feeble climbing skills and inability to digest delicious tin cans are two ways in which evolution left humans inferior to goats. Channel an inner mountain goat with today's Groupon to Sierra Rock Climbing School redeemed on location at Castle Rock in the Bay Area, Joshua Tree in Southern California, or Eastern Sierra in Northern California. Choose from two options:
- For $69, you get a half-day rock-climbing class (a $140 value). Classes will meet at Joshua Tree National Park on October 8, November 6, November 13, and November 26. Classes will meet at Castle Rock State Park on October 16, October 22, November 13, and November 20.
- For $155, you get a half day of private guided rock climbing for two (a $310 value). Guided climbs can be scheduled throughout the week at either 9 a.m. or 2 p.m.
Certified by the Professional Climbing Guides Institute, Sierra Rock Climbing School's guides and instructors lead aspiring mountaineers of all skill in scaling the rocky terrain of California. Beginning and intermediate climbers can opt to enroll in a half-day class at their choice of the Castle Rock State Park or the Joshua Tree National Park. A half-day climbing instruction introduces students to top-rope skills they can use in future climbs or when sidling up their houses in pursuit of a stray hacky sack. The school provides gear for half-day classes, so the only things students have to bring is a sense of wonder and a mountainous yodel in their hearts. Students must provide their own transportation and lodging and must register for classes and trips here.
During the half-day guided tour, a duo of beginning, intermediate, or advanced alpinists can choose to embark on elevated escapades through their choice of locations, including the Mammoth Lakes or Bishop Areas of the Eastern Sierra, the Castle Rock State Park in the Bay area, or the Joshua Tree National Park in Southern California. Once they arrive, a personal guide provides them with the shoes, harnesses, helmets, and belays needed to master the mountainside. Climbers use top-roping, single-pitch, or multi-pitch methods, clambering across rocky edifices under the watchful eye of their instructor and the envious glare of bumbling mountain gnomes. Climbers who would like to upgrade to a full- or 3/4-day tour may apply the purchase price of their Groupon toward these options and also receive a 20% discount.

About Joshua Tree Guides
When 20-year climbing veteran Zeke Federman started a rock-climbing guide service, he needed to situate its headquarters someplace that was more than simply rocky. The spot he settled on falls squarely in Joshua Tree National Park—an area boasting a varied landscape and steady climate that is friendly to year-round mountaineering and offers challenging routes to both beginners and experienced climbers with their own pet mountain goats. Zeke's climbing academy, Joshua Tree Guides, sets its students loose on guided excursions across the region's higher-altitude cliffs. His staff of Professional Climbing Guides Institute–trained guides has won points with clients for combining an easygoing demeanor with a serious attentiveness to safety and the needs of beginners to go slowly. In addition to small groups, the company has also guided successful climbing outings for large corporations such as Google and Frito-Lay.
