How often do you walk into a restaurant and walk out knowing a new language? Staffed almost entirely by deaf waiters, bartenders, and chefs, Signs Restaurant introduces guests to American Sign Language with a menu that features easy-to-follow translation for every salad, slider, and small-plate entree. Aided by the menu's handy cheat sheet, guests use their hands to order upscale gnocchi dishes, plates of vegetable noodles in aromatic tomato sauce, and ravioli stuffed with nduja (a spicy Calabrian pork sausage). It's an experience that's both delicious and personally enriching, and emblematic of Signs' work with local organizations, including the Bob Rumball Centre for the Deaf, the Canadian Hearing Society, and the Ontario Association for the Deaf.
