Simone Martini Bar Cafe
What immediately hooks most patrons of Simone Martini Bar Cafe is the Chinese-inspired decor—a black-and-white checkered floor offsets a crimson tin ceiling, and between the two are walls dressed with beaded curtains, gold-framed mirrors, and red floral wallpaper. Under the warm light of crystal chandeliers, patrons' eyes are drawn to paintings by Vladimir Tretchikoff, the internationally famed artist who painted Chinese Girl, or "The Green Lady." The exotically intoxicating ambiance has landed the bar several high-profile features, including in Elle and on MTV.
Not to be outdone by the sights, the menu of small plates and cocktails is equally seductive. The decadent tapas selection includes spanish olives stuffed with anchovies, and eggplant caviar with goat cheese; even the soups intrigue with interesting blends such as carrot, orange, and tarragon. As far as beverages, guests can choose from more than 20 martinis—including a refreshing ginger lemon drop—as well as fresh sangria and espresso with crema so thick New York magazine said "you could float a penny on [it]," which you shouldn't actually try because pennies, ironically, have not been tested for food safety by the U.S. government.
