- $20 for an afternoon Tea n Talk class for one ($40 value)
Classes start with a two-cup personal pot of premium, loose-leaf tea, with varieties that include English breakfast, Buckingham Palace Garden Party, or lavender Earl Grey. After enjoying the tea, diners indulge in their choice of soup before digging into an assortment of four tea sandwiches—including cream cheese and olive, egg salad, cucumber, and more—plus a scone with the trimmings and teabread. The meal concludes with a full-sized seasonal dessert. Throughout the class, a resident tea expert regales attendees with information about the tea and the history of tea customs, and the class also includes a take-home personal tea ball and bag of tea.
Simpson House Tea Room
Simpson House Tea Room sets the tone for tea time from the moment guests first glimpse the stately structure. The shrub-flanked walkway, the white wooden farmhouse with the sprawling wraparound porch, emerald shutters, and black roof appear untouched since being built in the 1890s. Inside, high-backed wooden chairs, and tiered platters surround steaming pots of 100 varieties of loose-leaf tea, a large variety of sandwiches including cream-cheese-and-olive, and scones with homemade lemon curd. With a variety of delightfully fussy services, the teahouse embraces teatime's lineage as the perfect treat for ladies who lunch—welcoming bridal and baby showers—and as the only way to tame a wild teddy bear.
