With more than 200 live music venues and an array of internationally acclaimed music festivals, Austin has earned its self-anointed title as the "Live Music Capital of the World." Thousands of musicians call Austin their home, and their presence is a crucial boost to the local economy. But as the cost of living rises and competition for work in the music business increases, many musicians struggle to stay afloat both financially and emotionally. Irregular working hours and extensive travel schedules also wear away at musicians and their families, leading to depression, anxiety, relationship difficulties, and alcohol or drug abuse. With little or no insurance, these musicians sometimes can't afford to pay out-of-pocket for counseling or medical treatment.
The SIMS Foundation provides mental health and addiction recovery services for uninsured or underinsured musicians and their families living within a 50-mile radius of Austin. The organization was founded in 1995 by the friends and family of Sims Ellison, an Austin musician who committed suicide after struggling with depression.
Join G-Team to fund at least four weeks of one-hour counseling sessions for a musician in need. For every $45 donated, the SIMS Foundation will provide one hour of counseling, conducted by a licensed therapist who will provide their services at less than half the market rate. At $180 raised, the four weeks of counseling for one musician will be covered; at $360 raised, four weeks of counseling will be provided to two musicians, and so on. Giving levels of $5 and $45 are available.
Unlike traditional Groupon deals, G-Team campaigns typically don't offer you a "discount" or "savings." So "buyer" beware—when you click "Buy" to donate your time or money to a worthwhile G-Team cause, the only discount you may receive is 100% off free, priceless karma. Read more about G-Team.
