Almost anything can be improved with music, as evidenced by tuba-accompanied balcony serenades, operatic State of the Union addresses, and yodeled bank statements. Tune your ears to the sweet sounds on stage with today’s Groupon: for $15, you get a ticket to see the Bang on a Can All-Stars with Wilco drummer Glenn Kotche at the Singletary Center for the Arts on the University of Kentucky campus (a $32 value). The show takes place on January 30 at 7:30 p.m., and the Groupon gets you a seat in rows D–N.
Formed out of the Bang on a Can musical collective that’s renowned for its annual 12-hour marathons in New York, the Bang on a Can All-Stars is a part-rock band, part-chamber group that bridges the gap between classical and pop music. Eclectic musical backgrounds influence the group's genre-defying arrangements, which blend electric guitar, drums, bass, keyboard, cello, and clarinet to create an uninhibited and indefinable soundscape. For this show, the All-Stars welcome Wilco drummer and percussionist Glenn Kotche—named the 41st Greatest Drummer of All Time by Gigwise—who lends his innovative, unrelenting drumming style that employs each arm, each leg, and each of his six tentacles.
Though this year's performance of Bang On a Can All-Stars with Glenn Kotche has yet to receive many online reviews, more than 1,000 Facebookers are fans of the Singletary Center for the Arts, which is where the event will take place.
