A ballerina's graceful balance is inspiring to aspiring dancers, captivating to houses of cards, and vexing to bulldozers razing cliffside condor habitats. Dwell on adroit appendages with today's Groupon: for $15, you get a ticket to see the Moscow Festival Ballet present Sleeping Beauty (a $32 value) at the Singletary Center for the Arts on the University of Kentucky campus. The show takes place at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, March 24, and the Groupon gets you a seat in rows D–N.
The Petipa-choreographed and Tchaikovsky-composed ballet Sleeping Beauty has been marveling audiences for almost a century with its vibrant and stirring artistic interpretation of the iconic fairytale. The elegant tour de force showcases hallmark achievements for both artist's careers, as the performance is packed with Tchaikovsky's haunting yet catchy melodies and rife with Petipa's signature leaps, lifts, and turns. The tale chronicles the trials set upon a young princess (and charming prince) by dueling fairies. When the evil fairy curses the princess to death on her 16th birthday, the good fairy counters with the blessing that the loving smooch of a royal boyfriend will save her in time for her teenage-angst-fueled reality show.
Though reviews of the Moscow Festival Ballet's Sleeping Beauty are still growing, Singletary Center for the Arts, which is where the event will take place, has nearly 1,140 Facebook fans.
