Is this like a regular certification that can be used in the ocean? How many classes are included in this deal?

Hi, Thank you for your question. This is the full open water training, so upon successful completion of the program you will become a certified scuba diver that is able to dive anywhere in the world that diving done. We have a preset amount of material we need to cover, but we don't have a preset amount of days we need to cover it in. Generally the way it works is that the store sets the first night of class. At the end of that first session we get everyone to pull their calenders out and the group decides the meeting time of the next session. A general class is normally around 3-5 class room sessions, 1-2 pool sessions, and 2 full days of diving. Our classroom sessions usually meet at 6 PM through the week, and will run until around 9 PM. Pool days are on Sundays at generally start at 10 AM here at the store, and will run until around 4 PM. After you have completed your classroom and pool sessions you have some options. What's included in the price of the Groupon are local check out dives at a local quarry. Those are on Sunday's as well. We will meet at the store at 9 AM and head to a local quarry for a full day of diving, it takes two full days to complete your certification. Another option is for you to sign on to one of our local trips. This is an additional charge of course, but a general check out dive trip starts on a Thursday at 8 AM, we all ride together in a large van (with a DVD player) to Florida and spend the weekend diving in warm clear water. We also spend one morning snorkeling with manatees in their environment. This trip is a wonderful quick getaway, and you come back a certified scuba diver. We here at Sink or Swim Scuba, and want to help you with anything we can to help you to become a certified scuba diver. Thanks again.

Q:

I read that we need to buy a book and some gear. If we buy basic gear from you we can use your stuff at no charge. Does include the certification dive at the quarry or FL? Can you give me the $$ amount for the everything needed if I buy it all from you. If you would take the time I would like the "raw" essentials to complete the class, going to FL. and if I buy a starter "kit" or something to get me started. I would like to know the differences in price from "raw" essentials and a decent starter kit. I am really interested but would like an idea of what I will need to spend before I sign up. Is it $500, $2000, or what. Thanks for your time and hopefully I'll see you soon!!

Yes, if you buy the basic stuff from our store you can use the remainder of your needed gear at no charge. If you don't buy your basic stuff from us you can rent the remaining items at $10 per item per day. The groupon includes dives at a local quarry, the Florida trip is an extra charge. If you get a chance give me a call and we can answer your other questions more thoroughly via the phone concerning a list of prices. Thanks.

Q:

Hi- When it says that equipment is not included can you rent equipment through you? Thanks!

Ashley J.  asked on  Dec 18, 2012

A:

Thank you for your question. The way it works is that scuba is a fun sport, but to practice it safely and have a great time doing it requires a little equipment. Our program is designed to help you become a certified scuba diver and ensure a life time of underwater adventure. When you sign up for our program you are required to buy a text book ($36). If you have a group of friends or family coming to the program together, we are OK with the group sharing a book, as long as the group all gets enough time with the book to learn the material properly. As part of the class room we will be going over all of the equipment, some of which you will need to own to complete the program, but you don't need this until it is time to get in the water with us. If you buy your very basic equipment from us (the inexpensive stuff like mask and fins), we will provide the rest of the equipment at no charge. If however you buy your basic equipment elsewhere you may rent the remainder of the equipment, but it isn't provided at no charge like it was with your purchase. Any equipment you bring in must be checked out prior to being used in our program so that we can ensure it will work properly for our program. Think of this like signing up for tennis lessons and needing to bring your own tennis shoes.
