What You'll Get
Like flip-flop wedges and bolo ties, a bag of yarn has become the newest go-to fashion accessory. Get into vogue with today's Groupon: for $12, you get a learn-to-knit class or $25 worth of retail items at Sip & Knit, located in Maitland.
Sip & Knit has been woven into the hearts of local knitters and crafters since first casting on 11 years ago. Before knitting a scarf for mom's pet elephant, you must first learn the basics of knitting, from mastering the different stitches to resisting the urge to bat the ball of yarn. Experienced instructor Barbara Fusi teaches knitting newbies the skills necessary to graduate from decorative pot holders to wearable works of art. Never leaving anyone crying in a pile of yarn, her classes are relaxed and fun, moving according to the desired pace of each student. Supplies are not included, but can be purchased at Sip & Knit.
For the experienced yarn wielder, today's Groupon can instead be used toward supplies set to spark the imagination for future projects. Knitters can clothe blushing hand puppets with sock yarns ($16–$29, 400–460 yds.), crochet a car shawl with Jagger Spun Zephyr wool/silk blend ($15, 630 yds.), or knit a colorful bikini for a trip to the car wash with 100% cotton Araucania Lonco ($14, 440 yds). Sip & Knit has a plethora of accouterments, from books and patterns to needles and a shop dog named Tucker who freely hands out platitudes and knitting advice.
