The Sunday funnies, though rarely funny, earn their keep by providing sanctuary for homeless puns and down-and-out characters only owning one set of clothing. Give aspiring artists a hand up with today’s Groupon: for $65, you get a children's five-session Introduction to Cartooning class from Sirron Norris (a $135 value) at his studio and gallery on Valencia Street.
Professional artist Sirron Norris teaches his youthful charges the skills they need to create their own comic masterpieces. An experienced and resourceful instructor, Mr. Norris works on cartoons, 3-D animation, gaming, and popular murals found throughout the city, passing on his skills to others at his inspiring studio. Children ages 6–12 learn how to imagine and make their own one-of-a-kind cartoon characters during the five sessions, each lasting one hour, with all supplies included.
The studio and gallery's spacious, visually arresting interior leaves plenty of room for imaginations to run wild, employing vibrant colors and pop art to stimulate the right side of little brains. Norris’s simple techniques aim to have each aspiring Jack Kirby or Jim Davis cartooning in no time, overrunning the city with extraterrestrial battles fought by lasagna-guzzling felines.
Though reviews of Sirron Norris' classes are still growing, nine Yelpers give the studio and gallery a perfect five-star average:
