Ice is nothing more than water that won't let people swim in it. Such stubbornness deserves comeuppance in the form of sharp metallic blades that merrily crisscross to and fro across the frozen surface. • For $10, you get one ticket for seating in the fourth or fifth row (a $25 value).
• For $15, you get one ticket for seating in the second or third row (a $35 value).

Skate for Hope raises awareness and money for breast-cancer research, treatment, and prevention with a dazzling show of on-ice acrobatics featuring skaters from throughout Ohio and across the world. Founded by breast-cancer survivor and figure-skater Carolyn Bongirno, the event brings together skaters from across the age spectrum, each of whom raises at least $450 for the cause. In addition to local skaters, Olympic medalists Johnny Weir and Rachel Flatt will perform figure-skating routines infused with their world-class skill and professional aplomb, melding chilly temperatures and dazzling spectacle like a magician in a meat locker.
Through individual giving and corporate sponsors, Skate for Hope has raised more than $293,000 over the years. All proceeds go to the Arthur G. James Cancer Hospital and Richard J. Solove Research Institute and the Vera Bradley Foundation for Breast Cancer. Spectators take in the dynamic ice-borne show at Nationwide Arena, which contains more than 18,000 seats. A 135-foot tower above the arena illuminates the Columbus sky when events are in progress, alerting passersby of the fun they could be having and instructing baby-bearing storks to maintain holding patterns while expectant parents remain inside.
