Baseball is considered one of America's favorite pastimes, much like watching TV, voting, and avoiding eye contact while riding the subway. Practice your patriotism with today's Groupon: for $10, you get 30 minutes of indoor batting-cage rental at Slammer's Training Academy in Lake Forest (a $20 value).
Owned by a team of baseball specialists–including former L.A. Dodgers catcher Gary Bennett–Slammer's hurls some 18,000 square feet of indoor training ground at baseball and softball players. Players of all skill levels can practice arm extension, timing, and coordination via Slammer's seven pitching machines, capable of simulating fast balls, curve balls, and the terror-inducing movie pitches for Les Miserables 2: More Mis. The state-of-the-art facility is located a hop, skip, and a bunt from Chicago's North Shore, and guests are welcome to combine two Groupons for an entire hour's worth of swing practice.
Slammer's Training Academy
Drafted into the Philadelphia Phillies straight out of high school, Gary Bennett spent 13 seasons as a major-league catcher, a career that included a stint on the 2006 World Series Champion St. Louis Cardinals. Gary is one of several baseball specialists whose tutelage has contributed to Slammer's Training Academy's assistance in more than 250 collegiate scholarships and 30 major-league prospects. Each instructor enriches pupils' pitching and batting skills with private sessions, team instruction, and clinics and camps designed by major leaguers throughout the fiscal year.
