The Issue: Long Waiting List of Children in Need of Beds
Currently, Sleepyhead Beds has more than 300 children on its waiting list in need of beds. Along with helping ensure that children in the community receive a good night's sleep, by refurbishing mattresses, Sleepyhead Beds hopes to keep hundreds of mattresses and box springs out of area landfills.
The Campaign: Providing Refurbished Beds for Kids in Need
If this Grassroots campaign raises $600, then Sleepyhead Beds can provide a refurbished mattress, a new blanket, and a new pillow to 20 children in need. After collecting new and gently used mattress donated from the community, Sleepyhead Beds sterilizes and redistributes them to the children. Each additional $30 raised will be used to provide another child with a refurbished mattress, plus a new blanket and pillow.

Since 2010, Sleepyhead Beds' team of volunteers has collected new or gently used beds and bedding to give to children in need—working with the belief that all children deserve a good night’s sleep. The volunteers pick up donated mattresses, and then transport them to the organization's warehouse for sterilization before delivering the beds to the children. In 2011, Sleepyhead Beds delivered approximately 1,800 beds to Kansas City–area children.
