What You'll Get
For an 11th year, the SoCal Film Festival in Huntington Beach is providing an outlet for independent filmmakers to screen their features and shorts, including comedies, science fiction, documentaries, animated and international films. For four straight days at the Huntington Beach Central Library Theatre, you can see films from 11 countries, 14 first-time or student filmmakers (including three teens), 13 Southern California filmmakers and 15 women directors -- with many screenings accompanied by Q&As from the filmmakers. A few highlights of the SoCal Film Festival include Driving While Black and Cesium and a Tokyo Girl, part social commentary about the Fukushima nuclear plant disaster and part Japanese history lesson.
