Social House takes its name literally. The neighborhood gathering spot set up shop inside a historical house—built in 1892, saved from demolition and restored in 2010—and had it decorated with detailed murals by an award-winning artist who happens to be the great-aunt of the home's owner. Located near the Virginia Tech campus, the Main Street fixture even has a front patio and a porch that often hosts live music.
Pear Aivey Charoensombut-amorn, the restaurant's owner and a Bangkok native, counts Social House among three area businesses she helms. Its menu of Asian-fusion cuisine is inspired by her Thai roots and her adopted hometown of Blacksburg. Many Familiar dishes offer a twist, such as Angus burger topped with a housemade peanut-chipotle sauce, Baked Sweet Chili/ Basil Salmon and Grilled Pork Stick with Sticky rice. Traditional options, from Old-Fashion Burger, Smoked Beef Brisket, and Souter Jumbo Shrimp and Grits.
