Expect the unexpected when Ballet Hispanico, one of the nation’s most innovative and athletic dance troupes, brings its trademark “invention, humor and spontaneity” (The New York Times) back to Houston. A storied Latino dance organization that constantly seeks new creative challenges, the Ballet has enraptured more than three million people on three continents with its rich repertory of more than 100 works. For its return to Jones Hall, the company will perform its first full-length narrative work - Gustavo Ramírez Sansano’s CARMEN.maquia. Riveting from start to finish, this work boldly reimagines Georges Bizet’s iconic opera about a passionate gypsy. Stunning sets and minimalist black-and-white costumes are the perfect complements to the work’s charged and sensual choreography. Contemporary dance fuses with traditional Spanish paso doble and flamenco during this thrilling showcase performance.
