Christmas without carols is like the Fourth of July minus the fireworks. And just like watching YouTube clips of fireworks doesn't match the excitement of a live pyrotechnic display, canned carols don't summon the holiday spirit quite like a live concert. So head to Christ Episcopal Church to hear Soli Deo Gloria perform Let Heaven and Nature Sing. Inspired by the frequent references to plants and flowers in traditional Christmas songs -- including "The Cherry Tree Carol," "Lo, How a Rose E'er Blooming" and "The Holly and the Ivy" -- the esteemed Bay Area choir now presents an entire program organized around the symbolism of Yuletide greenery. Orchestra Gloria joins the singers for a thrilling afternoon of fragrant song including original arrangements by the ensemble's artistic director Allen Simon and John Rutter's jubilant Magnificat.
