I went to the midtown location on a Monday afternoon. The food was ok on a scale of 1-5 I would give it a 2 1/2. I would like to try the East location just to compare. The service was good, but the food could have been better.

While the place itself is not fancy, the establishment is clean. There is a good assortment of foods. It would be a good idea to get there at 12:00, rather than evening as the food is hot and fresh!

It is not a fancy or romantic place - just a bare bones storefront, but it was clean and the food was excellent and very reasonably priced for NYC. It has some southern Soul Food type dishes you won't find most places - like the excellent Okra & Stewed Tomato veggie side dish I tried. Some of the portions were very large, like the big mound of fluffy mashed potatoes - and they were very good. My wife loved the bacon flavor of the string beans - very southern style. However, don't make the mistake of ordering something not Soul Food and expecting it to be appropriate. I ordered the Jerk Chicken because I like real Jamaican HOT Jerk food - the chicken was good, but it was only slightly spicy bar-b-que - it was not real Jamaican Jerk. Hot enough Jamaican Jerk for me is hard to find even in Jamaican places in NYC. if you are near the w 28th St location I visited area at meal time - do give Soul Fixins' a try.
