Q:

It says that a referral for xrays will be given in the initial consult if deemed necessary. I do not have insurance - if you say I need xrays, am I required to pay additional and get them before you will start the treatments?

Pete J.  asked on  Jul 26, 2012

A:

Pete, Most patients will not need an xray (greater than 90%). If you did need xrays for me to provide safe chiropractic treatment and you were unable to afford them I would notify Groupon so you can return the voucher for a full refund.

Q:

Hi- I have Highmark Blue Shield insurance. Do you accept this and can I combine the Groupon AND use insurance? Thanks Christi

Christi F.  asked on  Jul 26, 2012

A:

Hi Christi, I do accept Highmark Insurance. However, it can not be combined with the Groupon. There are a few scenarios that you should consider before purchasing the Groupon: 1. If you have a deductible that is several hundred to over one-thousand dollars, you would be responsible for the entire cost of the services at a chiropractic office until the deductible is reached. Therefore, at the very least, you could expect to pay $190 for 5 adjustments (not including the rehab or cold laser). 2. If you do not have a deductible, then you will very likely have to pay a copay for each treatment AND the evaluation at a chiropractic office. You can find out what your copay is by looking at the front of your insurance card. The copay for chiropractic treatment is under SP on the card (standing for specialist). Often times the copay is $25 or greater, so you could expect to pay at least $150 for an evaluation and 5 treatments when using your insurance. 3. If you were not interested in 5 treatments, then insurance may be the better bet. For example, if you have a $20 copay, and you only wanted 1 treatment, then the cost would be $40 for your first treatment instead of $49. I know this is a lot of information, so please feel free to call me at 412-833-4601 if you want to discuss your situation before you make a purchase. Thank you for your interest!

Okay all good to know. My co pay is $15 and I have no deductible, so I guess I am better off just using insurance. I have used this insurance at a Chiro office in the past, so I know I have Chiro benefits. Thank you for your time!

Q:

Really? Someone would charge over $300 for a Chiro consult? Are they crazy? Most legit Chiropractors will do those for free!

Linden  asked on  Jul 26, 2012

A:

Linden, I'm sorry for any confusion with how the deal reads. Groupon utilizes the maximum fee schedule for the offices it features so that it can use the phrase "up to" a particular value. In some cases, patients with very complicated health histories and conditions require up to two 1-hour evaluations before proceeding with treatment. At a typical hourly rate, plus the treatment of several spinal conditions utilizing three separate treatments (adjustments, physical therapeutics, and cold laser), the MAXIMUM amount that a patient could be charged can total over $300. This is obviously not the standard, but it ensures that all interested customers of Groupon will receive a complete evaluation and well-rounded treatment regardless of their conditions.
