South of Philly Pizzeria
"How can they possibly keep track of everything?" That thought might cross the minds of customers gazing into South of Philly Pizzeria's open kitchen, where the chefs cook dozens of homemade items ranging from gyro sandwiches, to chicken wings, to linguini tossed in Sunday gravy (or slow-simmered meat and marinara sauce for those who didn't grow up in an Italian household). Their diverse culinary skills extend to cheese-covered french fries, calzones, and, of course, hand-tossed pizzas.
While customers can build their own pizzas, the restaurant is known for its speciality pies. The Lowcountry BBQ, for example, piles mozzarella, cheddar, and pork on top of a barbecue base. Other options include traditional white pizzas and the T-Rex, which adds a shot of hot sauce over pepperoni, salami, capicola, and sausage. Yet none of these can lay claim to being the most adventurous item on the menu. That title goes to the PMC, a pizza for which the chefs get to decide the toppings, and then surprise diners with the tasty result.
