Innovative jazz violinist Regina Carter is considered one of the most thrilling and accomplished musicians of her generation, a visionary who uses her instrument to explore different cultures and worlds. A MacArthur "Genius Grant" recipient, Carter's albums have explored diverse genres including early jazz standards (2006's I'll Be Seeing You: A Sentimental Journey) and African music re-imagined for violin (2010's Reverse Thread). Now the violin prodigy turns her attention to the folk music of the South with her latest album, Southern Comfort. The most recent in a long line of important and eclectic jazz artists from Detroit, Carter has been hailed as "wonderfully listenable, probingly intelligent and, at times, breathtakingly daring" by Time magazine. See her in Orange at the South Orange Performing Arts Center.
