I recommend that you come early and start taste testing! Make sure you bring cash for lunch and for other vendors who may not take cards (most did take cards). I split up the 8 booths with lunch and had a wonderful time!

What You'll Get

Like choosing a prom date, choosing a favorite wine necessitates sampling a variety to determine which one will produce the nicest bouquet. Enjoy the fruits of competitive courting with today’s Groupon: for $39, you get a wine-tasting package to the Southern Virginia Wine Fest (up to an $80 value). The package includes the following:

  • Admission for one to the Southern Virginia Wine Fest on February 18 from noon to 6 p.m. at the Olde Dominion Agricultural Complex in Chatham (up to a $15 value)
  • A wine-tasting passport to 13 wineries (a $65 value)
  • A souvenir glass <p>

From its inaugural soiree in 2009 as a gathering of nine vineyards, the Southern Virginia Wine Fest has grown into an oasis for enophiles, inviting myriad wineries to pour tastes of their homegrown libations. For six hours, guests commune with 13 vineyards, savoring more than 60 wines, such as a local merlot from Hickory Hill Vineyards or an estate chardonnay from Greenwood Vineyards. Live bands serenade giddy guests set adrift as they chat with winemakers, nibble on specialty eats, or talk empty casks into dancing.

For 12 months after the festival, guests can use the winery passport to sample wines at the 13 vineyards, tasting cabernet sauvignon among the vines at Hunting Creek Vineyards or tie-dying their shirts purple during wine showers to accentuate the historic plantation scenery at Bright Meadows Farm.

About SoVA Wine Trail

The SoVA Wine Trail lets groups experience its 12 participating wineries through food and wine tasting events, aiming to introduce visitors to the finest vintages crafted by local residents. The events provide the opportunity to chat personally with winemakers and vineyard owners, pairing their bottled beverages with bites from local restaurants. On the east side, wine lovers stop at Molliver Vineyards, which is located on a property that dates back to the 1700s, and Bright Meadows Farm, a winery that operates out of a 117-year-old barn. On the west side, the Brooks Mill Winery doles out fruit wines, and the White Oak Mountain Meadery lets visitors taste the drink our ancient ancestors preferred to drink when they ran out of Mountain Dew.
