Before sliding behind the wheel of a racecar, drivers undergo a brief training session and outfit themselves in safety gear, including a racing suit and helmet. Lap experiences are valid for Sunday race days during the 2013 season; consult the schedule for race nights and lap days.
The race-night package, which takes place on Saturday nights, includes an 8-lap practice session followed by a 3-lap qualifying session and a 12-lap main event, for which all drivers qualify. Around 10 drivers compete in each race, and the top three finishers receive trophies as well as interviews with the announcers. Drivers also receive a pit pass, and the event is geared toward people with little to no previous racing experience.
Motors zip around the All American Speedway, reaching speeds of up to 90 mile per hour and jockeying for first place in a display that emulates a professional car race. But behind the wheel of each real racecar is a beginner who’s picked up his or her skills from one of Spectator Racing’s experienced instructors, many of whom are former racing champions. Decked out in a fire suit and helmet, drivers execute turns during practice laps, qualifying races, and in the main event—a Saturday-night showdown that concludes with a trophy presentation and motor-oil sundaes for top finishers. Spectator Racing’s driving experiences are designed for visitors with little to no racing experience, and its instructors take the time to go over small details about performance after they watch their pupils practice.
