Q:

Japanese hair straightening versus your type of keratin treatment (keralyze brand)? Thanks.

sandra  asked on  Aug 3, 2012

A:

Japanese hair straightening is a permanent treatment that reforms the hair completely, it is for ladies who want pin straight hair. Its downside is that it does damage the hair and as it grows out there is a sharp demarcation line between your new growth and the treated hair. Keratin Treatment does not damage and reform the hair, it coasts the hair preventing water and damaging chemicals from penetrating the hair. Its main benefit are reducing blowdry and flat iron time by up to 50%, drastically cutting any frizz in your hair and stoping you hair from "growiing" in the humidity. The Keratin gradually fades over time, lasting up to 5 months, so there is no dramatic line between your new growth and the treated hair.

You can use the Keratin Treatment over the perm. The Keratin will actually cut down any frizz that you are experiencing from the perm.

Q:

I have had Japanese Straightening:LISCIO done on my hair May 2011, can a Keratin treatment be used on my hair? Can Liscio Straightening be used after a Kearatin Treatment, if so how long after? Does the Keratin Treatment permanently straighten the hair?

kelly v.  asked on  Aug 2, 2012

A:

Yes, the Keratin Treatment can be used on hair that has had a Japanese Straightener. They are two different types of treatments the Japanese Straightener permanently reforms the hair so that it is straight. The Keratin Treatment does not reform the hair (permanently straighten) but coats the hair reducing your blow dry time and frizz and help prevent hair from "growing" in the Atlanta humidity. It fades out over months. The Keratin will also help your hair recover from damage done by color, blow drying, flat ironing and most of our ladies who get both treatments like to do the Keratin during the summer months to help keep the humidity out of their hair and do the Japanese Straightener as needed.
