- $95 for a singer’s summer camp ($195 value)
This camp geared for kids ages 7–18 meets from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m, Monday, July 20 through Friday, July 24. Kids learn the finer points of harmony, pitch, and tone through fun exercises. They also practice working with microphones and learn how to pick songs to suit their voices. They even get to try their hand at recording an MP3, singing with a full band, and writing their own original songs.
Spotlight Studios' owner, Jessica Rasmussen, has been in entertainment for more than 15 years, in which time she also medaled in the World Championships of Performing Arts in LA. Along with a team of three other veteran performers, she strives to elevate her students to similar accomplishments with her studio's lessons in music and acting. Music classes are geared towards kids in middle school and high school, and touch on disciplines from singing to drumming; acting classes, meanwhile, can touch on scripted performance, improv, and understanding when it's appropriate to stop crying on stage. Career development is available for advanced students, with some Spotlight students having gone on to distinguished careers in entertainment, from taking the stage of American Idol to professional songwriting in Nashville.
