Camps for ages 7–17 meet from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. At the music and voice camp, kids learn the finer points of harmony, pitch, and tone through fun exercises. Acting camp helps starlets develop characters and refine their technique for stage and film. Each week ends with a performance for friends and family, who can purchase a DVD of the action.
Spotlight Studios' owner, Jessica Rasmussen, has been in entertainment for more than 15 years, in which time she also medaled in the World Championships of Performing Arts in LA. Along with a team of three other veteran performers, she strives to elevate her students to similar accomplishments with her studio's lessons in music and acting. Music classes are geared towards kids in middle school and high school, and touch on disciplines from singing to drumming; acting classes, meanwhile, can touch on scripted performance, improv, and understanding when it's appropriate to stop crying on stage. Career development is available for advanced students, with some Spotlight students having gone on to distinguished careers in entertainment, from taking the stage of American Idol to professional songwriting in Nashville.
