  • $129 for one week of half-day horseback-riding camp (a $265 value)
  • $199 for one week of full-day horseback-riding camp (a $450 value)

A duo of talented instructors captain horseback-riding camps where beginning riders aged 5–15 safely master the basics of riding, care, and horsemanship. During morning sessions, which run from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., Erin Cox channels her tenure of more than 10 years at the farm and an ongoing collegiate education in equestrianism into bonding riders with steeds without using superglue. In afternoon sessions held from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m., Audrey Yu's decade of nurturing and showing horses enriches her expert instruction. Both teachers sprinkle crafts and games between trotting sessions, and orchestrate horse shows at week's end.

Parents can drop off kids for either a half-day or an all-day camp that runs from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Attendees of the full-day camp should bring lunch, and all campers should tote along snacks, drinks, long pants, and boots. Riders can borrow helmets or bring their own, and may keep a camera on hand to document their experience. Camps are held five days a week for ten weeks, with the first camp kicking off on June 25 and the final week beginning August 27.

Spruce Meadow Farm

Spruce Meadow Farm is owned and operated by Al and Karla Deacon, who lovingly tend to the 40 horses that reside inside a complex of three riding rings—including an indoor ring—and two barns. For the past 20 years, the couple has been assisting and administering year-round lessons for riders of all ages, guiding trainees toward stronger bonds with their equine counterparts. Their lessons detail proper mounting, grooming, and tacking techniques, and culminate with safe cool-down exercises rather than unsafe attempts at horseback surfing. Al and Karla also assist equine enthusiasts through walker-led pony rides and ferry services geared toward off-site rides. Gift certificates are also available, to give the gift of riding to friends and loved ones.
