Without trips to amusement parks, the most exciting thing to happen to most families would be the periodic elections to determine who gets to be Dad that week. Shake things up with this Groupon.

While a modern amusement park today, Steel Pier has a long history. Originally opened in 1898, the Pier hosted top entertainers such as Charlie Chaplin, the Three Stooges, and Frank Sinatra, and famed acts including the Human Cannonball, the World Famous Diving Horse, and the Miss American Pageant. But after years of neglect and a devastating fire, Steel Pier needed a makeover. In 1993, the Catanoso brothers gave it just that, renovating the landmark spot to maintain its nostalgic charm and thrills for years to come.
Today, much like throughout its past, gales of laughter compete with crashing ocean waves at Steel Pier's scenic location on the Atlantic City boardwalk. Traditional-style attractions abound, such as the Swing Carousel, which sends parkgoers soaring through the air, while the Crazy Mouse a spinning roller coaster mixes the swirl usually reserved for Teacups with the ups, downs, and switchbacks of a roller coaster. The Sling Shot launches some of the most daring visitors toward the sky in a contraption that speeds up to 100 miles per hour, and the large, rotating arm that is the Mix sends people at both ends spinning through the air at 60 miles per hour. Above it all, helicopters buzz about, giving riders breathtaking views of the shoreline and city.
