Golf with friends is the best kind of bonding. There’s nothing like being out in the open air, hearing the wind blow through the beautiful old trees lining the well-groomed fairways, and refusing to grant your compadres mulligans. Today’s Groupon gets you one round of golf for two people, plus a golf cart, at Steele Canyon Golf Club for $55 (a $178 value for residents).
Located 20 minutes from downtown San Diego, Steele Canyon’s 27-hole, championship-caliber course was designed by legendary golf player, piano player, fan of the movie The Player, and member of the Players’ Club Gary Player to challenge seasoned golf-vets while respecting the natural beauty of the region. The Canyon Nine section of the course capitalizes on the dramatic elevation changes in the mountains, while the Meadow Nine offers a more nuanced, pastoral terrain. The secluded Ranch Nine winds through the fields of a working ranch where workers work on ranching.
A golf cart is included in the deal too. During taxing 10-putt shots, having a cart makes moving between ball locations less physically demanding. Think of all the fun you can have in that cart:
- Drive into tree.
- Drive into pond.
- Drive into ranch.
- Drive into wind.
- Drive into sandtrap.
- And more.
This Groupon can be used Monday thru Thursday any time, Friday thru Sunday after 11 a.m. If you purchase two Groupons, you can play a foursome with three of your most golfy friends.
Golf Digest rated Steele Canyon Golf Club 4.5 stars and among the Best Places to Play. San Diego Golf Links calls the courses at Steele Canyon “one of San Diego’s absolute best golf courses”: > * Each course offers a unique environment for every level of ability. Enveloped by soothing sea breezes with jaw dropping vistas and sculpted fairways, Steele Canyon will arouse every sense.
Four Yelpers give Steele Canyon 4.5 stars: > * All that & a bag of chips! Course conditions are on point… Fun but very challenging course. I would have to say that this may be the nicest course I’ve played to date. – Theo B. > * Golfing here was a breeze. This golf club is tucked away between Rancho San Diego and Jamul. So, quiet and serene…a perfect location for a golf course. – Miss Josephine Z.
Golf: The People’s Game
Who said golf was a rich man’s game? We didn’t. It was a filthy, lying cyber-bully. You know which one we’re talking about, the one with perfectly coiffed hair, a button-less future shirt, and a smug grin taunting you, almost daring you to challenge him to an enunciation contest (he has never lost). But don’t be intimidated by the way his eyes twinkle under the Canadian moonlight or how he stands on water as if he were Moses; he’s incredibly self-conscious of his inability to inflect.

Steele Canyon Golf Club
When golfing legend Gary Player designed Steele Canyon Golf Club, he did so in a manner that both respected and showcased the region's natural beauty and terrain. Gary divvied the 27-hole championship course into a trio of nine-hole courses, each presenting golfers with different challenges and vistas.
Located on the Ranch Course, the signature hole, "Parachute," has players tee off from more than 175 feet above the fairway. Not to be outdone, the Canyon Course features some lofty shots of its own. Hole four, for instance, challenges players with a sloping two-tiered green, but earned the nickname "Goosebumps" for its panoramic view of the canyons.
