Steelworks Center of the West
The Steelworks Center of the West celebrates the technology, labor, and—most importantly—the human beings that made the industrialization of Colorado and the West possible. A host of artifacts from the Colorado Fuel and Iron Company offers visitors of all ages a glimpse into how men, women, and even children lived and worked in a bygone era.
Housed in the original building of the CF&I Medical Dispensary, the museum educates students and adults alike through hands-on exhibits such as the Pullman CF&I Mine Rescue Car No. 1. For a more in-depth look at the industry, there are several extensive photo montages detailing how steel is produced. Lectures from historians or former miners and millworkers inform listeners with firsthand experiences, while resources for teachers help students get in touch with the past without having to build a time machine for the science fair.
