Glad I tried it out! I was worried about learning how to do the ropes myself, but it was great!

Warning, the fine print of the Groupon says "Orientation and lesson on first visit" this is not included (fine print is vague on that point). This Groupon is only for 2 week pass, no rentals included either (although this is well stated). After the initial shock of having to pay an extra $30 my first visit, I enjoyed this place very much. It's much smaller than other rock gyms in the area but the staff is friendly and the lesson is really really good. They take the time to fully explain everything about climbing, it's great for someone brand new to the experience. So basically, Groupon is vague but the overall experience with the staff and gym was very good.

What You'll Get

Some people are born to run; some are born to scramble up and down walls and ceilings like a Tokay gecko. Unleash your inner lizard with today's Groupon to climbers' paradise: for $135, you get a four-hour guided rock-climbing trip for two people from Stone Age Rock Gym (a $270 value).

Stone Age Rock Gym's certified stone shinniers lead four-hour guided rock-climbing trips for two in one of four natural playgrounds. After selecting an ascension site from over 25 cliffs throughout Connecticut, grip the quartz conglomerates with eager paws to scale the 30-foot cliffs of Wolf Rock in Mansfield Hollow, or ascend Rattlesnake Mountain in Farmington, where seasoned gravity spurners and newbie climbers can push upward on bluffs as high as 75 feet with three separate climbing faces—happy, angry, and flabbergasted. Pinnacle Rock in Plainville forks off the Metacomet Trail for astounding views from the 50–90-foot cliff decorated in bulbous boulders, sleek slabs, crisp cracks, and angled dihedrals. Or choose to scale the 120-foot Main Cliff of Ragged Mountain in Southington, known for its moderate-to-advanced climbs and cleanly upkeep.

About Stone Age Rock Gym

Within Stone Age Rock Gym's indoor facility, 4,500 square feet of textured climbing walls help visitors ascend to new heights. Bouldering, 32-foot lead routes, and top-rope climbing areas await gym guests, surrounding them in technicolor handholds that creep up the walls at challenging angles. Elsewhere, a simulated ice-climbing wall absorbs the blows of axes, and a gear shop preps climbers to ascend walls with the dexterity of Spiderman.

A staff of certified guides lead classes that teach students as young as 6 the fundamental skills needed to ascend simulated peaks. Alternatively, the experts head up guided climbing trips to sites across the state. They help eager climbers scale the 30-foot Wolf Rock in Mansfield Hollow and reach the Sasquatch hugs awaiting them atop Ragged Mountain's 120-foot cliff.
