Famed Spanish explorer Ponce de León was forced to forgo his quest for the mythical land of wine after an accidental tumble into the Fountain of Youth left him eternally underage. Take up his abandoned journey with today’s Groupon: for $15, you get $30 worth of wine, fudge, and more at Stonehaus Winery in Crossville.
Perched atop Tennessee's Cumberland Plateau, the family-owned and award-winning Stonehaus Winery has nurtured grapes into their grandest liquid potential for more than 20 years. A complimentary winery tour follows grapes' life cycles from growth to crushing to the 3,000-bottles-per-hour automated bottling machine, with a brief pause when grapes run away to find themselves and form folk combos. Stonehaus Winery's 18 varieties of wine include Lantana white ($10.95) and red muscadine ($12.95), a Helena blush ($10.95), and a very dry pinot gris with citric overtones that complement chicken, seafood, and pork ($19.95). Stonehaus Winery's popular Tickled Pink sparkling wine ($14.95), a fruity, semi-sweet with a labrusca aroma, won Best of Show at the 2009 Wines of the South competition. After sorting through sipables, peruse a showcase of homemade fudge, gourmet fare, and educational toys that, much like a piñata filled with $100 bills, are fun for both children and adults.
