Stonehenge Inn & Restaurant


  • The Founder: Shortly after WWII, Victor Gilbert bought what was once home to the folks who operated the grist and cider mills along the Norwalk River. He transformed the early-19th century house into a restaurant and inn and called it "Stonehenge."
  • About the Name: Gilbert named his operation in honor of the actual Stonehenge, which he'd grown fond of while stationed in England during the war.
  • Celebrities: Victor's Stonehenge hosted many famous people, including Judy Garland, Elizabeth Taylor, and even the emperor of Ethiopia.


  • Re-opening: Stonehenge re-opened in 2015 under the stewardship of accomplished restaurateur Jean-Pierre Rudaz, or simply JP for those in the know.
  • Accessible fine dining: JP made the restaurant more approachable (i.e., it's not nearly as formal as it once was), and he also revamped the menu with seasonal offerings. The dishes range from parmesan-crusted halibut with basmati rice to veal osso bucco served with potato gnocchi and orange gremolata.
