About Watershed Butterfly Festival

The Watershed Butterfly Festival will be held on August 4, 2018 on the grounds of The Watershed Institute. The Butterfly Festival, now in its 18th year, attracts children and adults from all over the state.

The Butterfly Festival is a wonderful opportunity for children and adults to learn about nature and how we can care for our environment. Our largest educational family event of the year offers imaginative, informative and environmental activities that engage the whole family. Highlighted by music, local artisans, craft vendors and food & our beautiful Environmental Center, with its energy and water savings features, is a fabulous community draw.

This year we are proud to present Kwel’ Hoy (We draw the Line) on travels from the Pacific Northwest, a 16-foot totem pole and art instillation housed at The Watershed Institute until late summer connects communities to water, land and our collective futures.

After learning all about a butterfly's life-cycle in the Kate Gorrie Butterfly House, visiting the insect zoo and rambling along on a trail with naturalist, guests can participate in the festival's much anticipated butterfly and bug parade where costumes are encouraged. Other entertainment will include Live Music, hula hooping with Glitterhoops and photo ops with a butterfly on stilts!

The festival will feature local crafts, products and food vendors. We have added a Food & Beverage Garden featuring Riverhorse Beer & Ironbound Hard Cider to enjoy while listening to live local music!
