What You'll Get
For many homeless individuals in the Portland area, the ability to earn a daily wage can be frustratingly limited, forcing them to live without basic food, clothing, and hygiene items. The income void also limits their ability to obtain work or build a solid resume to help them be considered for potential employment. Street Roots, a nonprofit, grassroots newspaper, provides homeless individuals the opportunity to take charge of their personal income and build resume skills while also providing an outlet to publish and distribute their work in Portland.
Street Roots lends the homeless community a voice, showcasing contributors' original stories, poems, and artwork. Through its publication, more than 300 homeless and low-income vendors are given the chance to earn a daily income and improve their self-sufficiency. Each newspaper sells for $1, with the individual vendor keeping $0.75 of each dollar earned. Vendors traverse the Portland area, providing them greater chances to sell their stock and exposing more readers to the alternative newspaper. To help vendors carry their stock, Street Roots provides cloth handle bags to each individual, making transportation easier and keeping the newspapers in better condition for public sale.
Join G-Team and donate $5, $10, or $15 to help Street Roots provide reusable, cloth handle bags to homeless and low-income vendors of the alternative news publication. The newspaper's goal of $400 enables Street Roots to purchase 80 bags, with each additional $5 enabling the purchase of one additional bag.
Unlike traditional Groupon deals, G-Team campaigns typically don't offer you a "discount" or "savings." So "buyer" beware—when you click "Buy" to donate your time or money to a worthwhile G-Team cause, the only discount you may receive is 100% off free, priceless karma. Read more about G-Team.
